The first Turbine Art Fair kicks off tonight at the beautiful Anglo Gold Ashanti Turbine Hall in Newtown Johannesburg, and will run over the weekend (26th – 28th July).
The Turbine Art Fair is a starting point for those wishing to collect South African art and a platform for those new and upcoming artists to exhibit their work.
Dubbed ‘the affordable’ art fair, works on show will range between R1000 – R25000. Over 40 galleries will be showing paintings, original artist-made prints, photography, and sculpture works by both established artists and young and up-and-coming artists alike. The intention behind the fair is showcase exceptional South African contemporary arts, including lesser known artists, and open this up to new buyers. So if you were waiting for the times to start your collection, this weekend is it.
There will also be talks on Saturday and Sunday by established collectors and curators, as well as professional artists and printmakers. These will serve to introduce people to the world of fine arts, and fine arts buying.
