This Tumblr-Born fashion brand harnesses the allure of femininity, sexuality and fashionable kink. Check out ilyathelable – a womenswear fashion label founded by South African designer Kajal Shah (Kaj).
The Durban native is intent on dedicating the majority of her crafting time to creating ‘a new normal’, inspired by the subversive fashion basics sprawled all over Pinterest and Tumblr feeds. In her own words, ‘this shouldn’t live on just a laptop screen, it should live on the body of a real woman’.

Plaiin cosmetics: September product launch!
Many consumers now discover beauty products on social media platforms like Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube, so it’s no surprise that both new and legacy brands are turning increasingly to digital media, in order to surprise their lovable shoppers to new product launches.
In an Instagram post, a half-opened sleeved box reveals a mini genie-bottle-looking product. People scrolling quickly through their Instagram feeds might have noticed this subtle IG announcement, made by the beauty brand – Plaiin – on 9th August 2022.

Oh my goss: Cast-in-place gemstone ring range
The Cape-Town-based jewellery brand Oh My Goss creates custom jewellery pieces, designed for either your everyday look or special occasion. For Women’s Month, we caught up with the Founder, Grace Goss, who shared news about her cast-in-place gemstone ring range.
These cast-in-place unique jewellery pieces, are all made of brass and sterling silver, and fitted with an array of natural gemstones, peridot, citrine, iolite and pink amethyst. These rings are made on demand according to clients’ stone choices and ring size – whilst maintaining the original design style that Ashby and Grace developed for Studio Candor’s jewels.

This Women’s Month Her… an exhibition celebrating women artists and their contribution to the industry is exhibiting in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Using a variety of media, the exhibition tells the story of the female experience through meaningful and innovative works that illustrate the issues pertinent to women over the last century, from domestic life and motherhood to discrimination, inequality, gender beauty standards and violence against women.
